The Standard Bank of Canada was established in 1873 as the St. Lawrence Bank, and renamed the Standard Bank of Canada in 1876. Though they had nearly 250 branches after acquiring the Western Bank of Canada and combining with the Sterling Bank in 1924, the Standard Bank merged with the Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1928.
